  • White paper on European Defence Preparedness examined

    The Riksdag has examined the EU’s White Paper on European Defence Preparedness 2030. The purpose of the White Paper is to strengthen the EU’s defence capabilities, including focusing on support to Ukraine and funding of defence.

  • Shore protection rules to be relaxed

    The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government’s proposal, which will enable a number of relaxations in rules governing shore protection.

  • New rules on advance payment of mortgages to be introduced

    The Riksdag has voted in favour of a new model for calculation of early repayment charges in connection with advance payment of fixed mortgages. An early repayment charge is the sum a borrower needs to pay to their bank when a fixed-rate loan is redeemed in advance.

  • The Speaker participates in EU Speakers Conference in Budapest on 11–12 May

    On 11–12 May, the Speaker Andreas Norlén will participate in a conference that gathers Speakers from the EU national parliaments, the European Parliament and candidate countries.

  • Members of the Riksdag observe elections in Albania

    Parliamentary elections will be held in Albania on 11 May. Nine members of the Riksdag are included in an international delegation that will observe the elections. A Swedish member will lead the official mission in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

  • Additional amending budget for 2025 – temporarily raised subsidy rate for tax credits on home repairs, conversion and extension

    The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposal to raise the subsidy rate for tax credits on home repairs, conversion and extension from 30 per cent to 50 per cent. The increase will apply between 12 May and 31 December 2025.

  • Stricter rules on international sanctions

    Stricter rules on international sanctions will be introduced by means of a new law. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposal which is intended to implement the EU sanctions directive (EU 2024/1226) in Swedish law.

  • Threats, violence and corruption to be combatted in municipalities and regions

    The Riksdag has voted in favour of two amendments to the Local Government Act.

  • Marshal of the Senate of Poland visits the Riksdag

    On 7 May, the Speaker Andreas Norlén will receive the Marshal of the Polish Senate Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska in connection with her visit to Sweden. The Marshal’s delegation includes members of the Polish Senate.

  • Additional amending budget for 2025 – further military support to Ukraine

    The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal on an additional amending budget to provide further support to Ukraine.

  • Cash should be banned in connection with trade in scrap metal

    A national cash ban should be introduced in connection with trade in scrap iron and metal. This is the opinion of the Riksdag, which decided to urge the Government by way of an announcement to take measures to introduce such a ban.

  • Small-scale farm sales of alcoholic beverages permitted

    The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal to enable, for a limited period, the sale of alcoholic beverages on a small scale through farm sales. The purpose is to improve conditions for the local tourism industry.

  • Visit the Riksdag on Stockholm Culture Night

    The Riksdag will participate in Stockholm Culture Night on Saturday 26 April between 18.00–24.00. The East and West Wings of the Riksdag and the Riksdag Library will be open all evening.

  • The Speaker and the Committee on Foreign Affairs visit the NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia

    On 16 April, the Speaker Andreas Norlén and members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs visited the Swedish Battalion at the NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia, Camp Valdemar.

  • Lithuania’s Prime Minister visits the Riksdag

    Lithuania’s Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas will visit Stockholm on Tuesday 22 April at the invitation of Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. During the visit, the Prime Minister will be received at the Riksdag by the Speaker Andreas Norlén.

  • Global tensions led to unusual number of urgent debates at Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe spring session

    The spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) took place in Strasbourg on 7–11 April. Eleven members of the Swedish delegation participated in the session which, among other things, focused on the arrest of the mayor of Istanbul and protests in the Western Balkans and Central Europe.

  • War in Ukraine and Middle East conflicts on the agenda at IPU Assembly in Tashkent

    Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine and the conflicts in the Middle East were discussed at the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) which took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on 4-9 April.

  • Situation in Georgia, Turkey, Ukraine and Serbia on the agenda at spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe

    The spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) takes place on 7–11 April in Strasbourg. Twelve members of the Swedish Delegation to PACE are participating in the session which, among other things, will focus on the situation in Georgia, Turkey, Ukraine and Serbia.

  • The Riksdag flies flag on NATO Day

    On Friday 4 April, the Riksdag will fly the flag on the occasion of NATO Day. The NATO flag will be raised at Riksplan from 8 a.m. Sweden has been a member of NATO since 7 March 2024.

  • State casinos to be discontinued

    The Riksdag has voted in favour of abolishing gambling in casinos as a result of the type of licence issued by the state. Since the licence for state gambling is the only form of licence covering gambling in casinos, the proposal means that no actor will be able to obtain a licence enabling gambling at casinos.
