Official visit by the Speaker to Japan
On 5–9 February, the Speaker Andreas Norlén visited Japan together with four members of the Riksdag. The programme included meetings with representatives of the Japanese Parliament.
Certain changes to the regulatory framework on security cases under the Aliens Act
It will be possible to revoke aliens’ passports – which can in certain cases be issued to individuals without a passport and with no opportunity to obtain one – for reasons for security. The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government’s proposal.

Debate between party leaders 17 January
A debate between party leaders was held at the Riksdag on Wednesday 17 January. During the debate, the leaders of all the parties represented in the Riksdag had the opportunity to argue in favour of the policies they wish to pursue.
Tougher penalties for handling of firearms and explosive goods
The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government's proposal for tougher penalties for the most serious forms of firearms offences, breaches of permit requirements for explosive goods, arms smuggling and smuggling of explosive goods.

Extended right to study minority languages at upper secondary school
The Riksdag has approved a proposal from the Government that upper secondary school pupils belonging to any of the national minorities will be offered mother tongue instruction without any requirement that the pupil has prior knowledge of the language.
Amendments to the Aliens Act
The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government’s proposal on amendments to the Aliens Act. The legislative amendments entail certain stricter conditions for family member immigration and limited possibilities regarding residence permits for humanitarian reasons. The amendments will come into force on 1 December 2023.
Peace, justice and strong institutions dominated the IPU meeting in Angola
On 22–27 October, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) met for the IPU Assembly in Luanda, Angola. The meeting largely focused on parliamentary work for peace, justice and strong institutions. A resolution on trafficking of orphanage children was adopted after extensive debate. The Swedish delegation consisted of four members of the Riksdag.
Additional amending budget for 2023 – Further military equipment to Ukraine
The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government's proposal to donate military equipment to Ukraine in the form of ammunition, spare parts for previously donated equipment, communication equipment and infantry equipment, such as personal equipment and weapons for infantry combat, which can be spared from the Swedish Armed Forces for a limited time, with a maximum value of SEK 1,657,000,000.
Work for increased security at Mynttorget
From October 2023 until the summer of 2024, work will be carried out around Mynttorget in order to increase security in the area. The work will be conducted in stages, and during this period, access around Mynttorget will be limited.
NATO Parliamentary Assembly and the Riksdag host Rose-Roth Seminar
On 23–24 October, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and the Riksdag will host the Assembly's Rose-Roth Seminar which is organised twice a year. The focus of the seminar is strengthening security and advancing Euro-Atlantic integration.
