Small-scale farm sales of alcoholic beverages permitted

Published:

The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal to enable, for a limited period, the sale of alcoholic beverages on a small scale through farm sales. The purpose is to improve conditions for the local tourism industry.

Certain restrictions will be introduced in order to ensure that sales are on a limited scale and that the focus is on the visit rather than the sales. The following requirements will therefore be introduced:

  • the alcoholic beverages must be produced by small-scale, independent producers;
  • farms sales may only be made to visitors who have paid to participate in knowledge-enhancing activities organised by the producer;
  • sales to each individual visitor may not exceed 0.7 litres of spirits, 3 litres of wine, 3 litres of strong beer and 3 litres of other fermented alcoholic beverages on one and the same occasion.

The legislative amendments will come into force on 1 June 2025 for a period of six years. Before the regulation is repealed, the reform should be evaluated.
