White paper on European Defence Preparedness examined

The Riksdag has examined the EU’s White Paper on European Defence Preparedness 2030. A White Paper, a strategic document from the European Commission, presents ideas on a specific topic. The White Paper on European Defence Preparedness has been developed by the European Commission together with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. The purpose of the White Paper is to strengthen the EU’s defence capabilities, including focusing on support to Ukraine and funding of defence.
The Riksdag welcomes the fact that the White Paper contains an increased ambition regarding European defence capabilities and considers that both the EU and each of the member states need to strengthen their defence capabilities. The Riksdag also believes that defence cooperation in the EU should be driven forward by the member states and complement their own their own defence capabilities and be in line with NATO’s defence capability goals. Support to Ukraine is still a priority for European Defence and Security Policy.
The Riksdag filed the statement on the White Paper, that is, it closed the matter.
