  • Armed force to be made available for evacuation operation in Sudan

    The Riksdag gives its consent to the Government to make an armed force comprising a maximum of 400 people available in Sudan.

  • Current energy policy issues on the agenda when the Riksdag hosts the interparliamentary conference on the EU’s future energy supply

    On 23–24 April 2023, the Riksdag will arrange an interparliamentary conference on the challenges and opportunities for the EU’s future energy supply. During the conference, primarily members from the EU’s national parliaments will meet to discuss current energy policy issues.

  • Official visit by Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada

    The Speaker of the House of Commons of the Parliament of Canada, Anthony Rota, and delegation, will pay an official visit to Sweden on 13–14 April. They will be received at the Riksdag by the Speaker Andreas Norlén on 13 April.

  • The work of Europol and the fight against organised crime the focus of discussions at the JPSG meeting

    When the Riksdag hosted the JSPG meeting, discussions included the work of Europol, European police cooperation and the fight against organised crime, for example trafficking in human beings. Members from the national parliaments of the EU member states and the European Parliament participated in the meeting, as well as invited keynote speakers from inter alia Europol.

  • Nordic Day celebrated at the Riksdag

    The Speaker Andreas Norlén and the Swedish Delegation to the Nordic Council invited the members and officials of the Riksdag to the celebration of Nordic Day on 23 March.

  • The Riksdag approves proposal to allow the Government to decide on military equipment to Ukraine

    The Government is to have the right to decide to donate military equipment to Ukraine, and to sell artillery pieces to the UK. This is the essence of a proposal from the Government, which the Riksdag has approved.

  • European police cooperation and trafficking in human beings on the agenda when the Riksdag hosts a meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group on Europol

    On 26–27 March, the Riksdag will arrange the twelfth meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group on Europol (JPSG-Europol). During the meeting, MPs from the national parliaments of the EU member states and the European Parliament will meet to discuss the work of Europol, police cooperation in the EU and the fight against organised crime.

  • Yes to Sweden's NATO accession

    The Riksdag approved Sweden's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty and the Agreement on the Status of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The Status Agreement regulates immunities and privileges for NATO and certain categories of staff. The Riksdag also voted in favour of the Government's proposal for legislative amendments.

  • Member of the Riksdag to observe presidential election in Montenegro

    A presidential election will be held in Montenegro on 19 March. A Swedish member of parliament will participate in an international delegation which will observe the election.

    Parliamentary elections will be held in Kazakhstan on 19 March. Eight members of the Riksdag will participate in an international delegation which will observe the elections.

  • Committee on Foreign Affairs proposes that the Riksdag approve Sweden's NATO accession

    The Committee on Foreign Affairs proposes that the Riksdag approve Sweden's accession to NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), as well as the proposed legislative amendments. The Left Party and Green Party have entered reservations on the proposal.

  • Increased initiatives for wetlands

    The Riksdag has called on the Government by way of an announcement regarding increased initiatives for wetlands. The announcement is based on proposals concerning water management contained in motions from the general private members' motions period in 2022.

  • The Speaker receives a delegation from Hungary

    On 7 March, the Speaker Andreas Norlén received Deputy Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly Csaba Hende and delegation for a meeting at the Riksdag.

  • The Riksdag and the European Parliament host a conference on economic coordination and governance in the EU

    On 27–28 February, the Riksdag, in collaboration with the European Parliament, hosted the Conference on Stability, Economic Coordination and Governance (SECG) in Brussels. Current economic challenges facing the EU and the member states against a backdrop of significant geopolitical uncertainty, high inflation and slow growth were discussed during three parallel sessions.

  • Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, the implementation of the Strategic Compass, and the Arctic on the agenda when the Riksdag hosts the Conference for the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Common Security and Defence Policy

    On 2–3 March, the Swedish Parliament will host the Interparliamentary Conference on the Common Foreign and Security Policy and Common Security and Defence Policy (CFSP/CSDP). During the conference, 250 participants will meet to discuss foreign, security and defence policy.

  • EU economic governance framework on the agenda when the Riksdag hosts the SECG Conference

    On 27–28 February, the Riksdag will be co-hosting the Conference on Stability, Economic Coordination and Governance, SECG, with the European Parliament. During the conference, parliamentarians primarily from the national parliaments of the EU member states, the European Parliament and the parliaments of candidate countries will meet to discuss economic and tax issues. The conference will take place in Brussels.

  • The green transition on the agenda when the Riksdag hosted interparliamentary conference on circular bioeconomy

    On 20 February, the Riksdag arranged an online conference on circular bioeconomy. During the conference, parliamentarians mainly from the national parliaments of the EU member states and from the European Parliament met not only to discuss challenges and difficulties posed by a circular bioeconomy but also above all to highlight good examples and innovations.

  • Improved supervision of antibiotics for animals

    The Riksdag voted in favour of a legislative proposal from the Government, that will require veterinary surgeons to submit data to the Swedish Board of Agriculture when animals are treated with antimicrobial medicinal products, such as antibiotics.

  • The Riksdag marks one year of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine

    To show support for Ukraine one year after Russia's full-scale invasion of the country, the Speaker will deliver a speech during a ceremony in the Chamber. During the week, the Ukrainian flag will also be hoisted at Riksplan, and the East Wing of the Riksdag will be illuminated in yellow and blue.
