Better opportunities to attract highly skilled third-country workers

Better opportunities to attract and retain highly qualified third-country workers. This is the purpose of the new EU Blue Card Directive, which means that Sweden and other member states are to introduce new rules on residence and work permits for people with highly qualified positions of employment.
The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government's proposal which includes lowering the salary threshold for the EU Blue Card. The Riksdag considers that the lowered threshold will enable Sweden to grant more sought-after professions an EU Blue Card. In addition, the Riksdag has also voted in favour of proposals to extend its area of application and to increase the flexibility of the regulatory framework for the EU Blue Card.
The amendments will come into force on 1 January 2025.
