  • The Riksdag flies its flags at half-mast

    On Friday 17 February, the Riksdag will be flying its flags at half-mast to honour the memory of member of the Riksdag Mats Nordberg (Sweden Democrats). Mats Nordberg, who was elected to the Riksdag in 2018, passed away on 15 January.

    The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposal for an additional amending budget in response to high energy prices and the deterioration of the security policy situation in Sweden’s neighbourhood.

  • Organised crime on the agenda when the Riksdag hosts meeting of the chairpersons of COSAC

    On 29–30 January, the Riksdag will host the meeting of the chairpersons of COSAC. During the conference, the chairpersons of the national parliaments' EU affairs committees and members of the European Parliament will be meeting to discuss current EU issues.

    The Riksdag delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, PACE, is participating in the Assembly’s winter session on 23–27 January. Issues to be discussed include the Russian invasion of Ukraine linked to human rights and the fight against gender-based violence.

  • The right to open and use payment accounts in more banks

    Foreign banks with branches in Sweden shall be obliged to offer consumers a payment account with basic functions. This has been proposed by the Government, and the Riksdag has voted in favour of the proposal.

  • Increased protection for consumers when paying invoices online

    The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government's proposal that the requirement for strong customer authentication for paying invoices online should be clarified and include invoice payments that constitute a payment service.

  • Belarusian opposition leader Tsikhanouskaya visits the Riksdag

    Second Deputy Speaker Julia Kronlid received Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, the leader of the opposition in Belarus, for a meeting at the Riksdag. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya also met representatives from the OSCE delegation and the delegation to the Council of Europe.

    On 6 December, the Second Deputy Speaker Julia Kronlid and the Third Deputy Speaker Kerstin Lundgren received Nicu Popescu, the Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs and EU Integration. Members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the OSCE delegation also participated in the meeting.

    On 30 November, First Deputy Speaker Kenneth G Forslund (Social Democratic Party) received the European Parliament's Conference of Presidents under the leadership of President Roberta Metsola, in connection with their visit to the Riksdag.

  • Amendments regarding copyright on the digital single market

    The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal to amend the Act on Copyright in Literary and Artistic Works. The proposal is based on an EU directive and contains new rules in order to modify the Act on Copyright in Literary and Artistic Works in line with digital developments.
