New rules for the taxi industry

Published:

The threshold value at which taxi drivers are obliged to inform customers of the exact fare for journeys is to be raised and linked to the price base amount, instead of being given as a nominal amount. In addition, the age requirement for obtaining a taxi driver licence will be lowered from 21 to 20 years.

According to the new rules, the threshold value at which taxi drivers are obliged to inform customers of the exact fare shall be 1.2 per cent of the price base amount. This means an increase from SEK 500 to SEK 680, according to the price base amount for 2024. The background to these amendments is primarily the rate of inflation and that the taxi industry needs to recruit more drivers.

The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposals for amendments to the Taxi Service Act.

The amendments will come into force on 1 January 2025.
