  • The Riksdag to fly its flags at half-mast in connection with a minute of silence

    On Tuesday 11 February at 12 noon, there will be a memorial ceremony in the Chamber in connection with the tragedy in Örebro. The memorial ceremony will begin with a minute of silence. The flags will be flying at half-mast from 9 a.m. until the minute of silence is over.

  • Swedish Armed Forces conduct exercise by the Riksdag on 15–17 February

    On 15–17 February 2025, the Swedish Armed Forces will conduct an exercise around the Riksdag in cooperation with the Riksdag Administration. Soldiers and vehicles from the Kings Guards Battalion which is a unit under the Guards Regiment will be present around the Riksdag.

  • Memorial ceremony in connection with the tragedy in Örebro

    In honour of the victims of the tragedy in Örebro, the Speaker Andreas Norlén will hold a memorial ceremony in the Chamber on 11 February at 12 noon. The memorial ceremony will begin with a minute of silence. The time has been adjusted following a dialogue between the Riksdag, the Government, Örebro Municipality and the Örebro County Administrative Board, because the Prime Minister has proposed a national minute of silence.

    The Riksdag is flying its flag at half-mast today following the tragedy in Örebro. The flag will be flown at half-mast from 9 a.m.

  • Georgia’s participation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in focus at the winter session

    The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) held its winter session in Strasbourg on 27–31 January. Ten members from the Riksdag delegation participated in the session, which focused on themes including the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the war in Ukraine. Great attention was also paid to Georgia's accreditation to PACE.

  • New procedures for asylum seekers’ accommodation

    Asylum seekers should, as a general rule, only be entitled to financial support if they exclusively live in the asylum accommodation they have been assigned to. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposal.

  • Lien introduced within social insurance system

    The Swedish Social Insurance Agency will be entitled to file a lien if there is a significant risk that a debtor will try to evade repayment, and if significant amounts are involved. The purpose is to create better tools with which to combat the criminal economy.

  • First Deputy Speaker visits Armenia

    First Deputy Speaker Kenneth G Forslund (Social Democratic Party) attended a NB8 visit to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia on 22 to 24 January 2025.

  • Second Deputy Speaker visits Saudi Arabia

    The Second Deputy Speaker Julia Kronlid (Sweden Democrats) and a delegation of members of the Riksdag will visit Saudi Arabia on 27–29 January. The purpose of the visit is to discuss current issues, mainly on developments in Saudi Arabia concerning gender equality and women’s rights, and to promote a positive image of Sweden through parliamentary contacts.

  • The Speaker participates in memorial ceremony in Auschwitz

    On 27 January 2025, the Speaker Andreas Norlén will participate in a memorial ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

  • Greater consideration to be paid to conservation in Natura 2000 sites

    The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government's proposal for legislative amendments to increase conservation considerations when fishing in Natura 2000 sites.

  • First Deputy Speaker visits Armenia

    First Deputy Speaker Kenneth G Forslund will attend an NB8 visit to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, from 22 to 24 January 2025. Speakers from the parliaments of the Nordic and Baltic countries will be participating in the visit. The visit will take place at the invitation of the President of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan.

  • Marburg virus to be classed as a virus constituting a danger to society

    The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposal that infection with Marburg virus be classified as a disease constituting a danger to society under the Communicable Diseases Act.

    A debate between party leaders will be held at the Riksdag on Wednesday 15 January. During the debate, the leaders of all the parties represented in the Riksdag will have the opportunity to argue in favour of the policies they wish to pursue.

    The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government’s proposal for a financial framework, totalling SEK 1,171 billion, which for twelve years will be used to upgrade Sweden’s transport infrastructure.
