  • Decision to increase members’ pay from 1 January 2025

    The Riksdag Remunerations Board has decided to increase the pay of the members of the Riksdag from 1 January 2025 by SEK 3,000 to SEK 78,500 per month.

  • Annual session of the Nordic Council

    On 28–31 October, the Nordic Council's 76th annual session was held in Reykjavik, Iceland. Peace and Security in the Arctic was the overall theme of the session. Invited guest speakers included Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the leader of the democratic movement in Belarus, Svetlana Tsikhanouskaya.

  • Members of the Riksdag observe US election

    A presidential election will be held in the USA on 5 November. Six members of the Riksdag will be included in an international delegation to observe the election.

  • Members of the Riksdag observe elections in Uzbekistan

    Parliamentary elections will be held in Uzbekistan on 27 October. Five members of the Riksdag will be included in an international delegation to observe the elections.

  • New rules for the taxi industry

    The threshold value at which taxi drivers are obliged to inform customers of the exact fare for journeys is to be raised and linked to the price base amount, instead of being given as a nominal amount. In addition, the age requirement for obtaining a taxi driver licence will be lowered from 21 to 20 years.

  • Members of the Riksdag monitor elections in Georgia

    Parliamentary elections will be held in Georgia on 26 October. Ten members of the Riksdag are included in an international delegation that will observe the elections.

  • Polarised IPU Assembly in Geneva

    The conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine left a distinct mark on the Inter-Parliamentary Union's (IPU) 149th Assembly which was held in Geneva on 13-18 October. Six members of the Riksdag participated in the Assembly.

  • Members of the Riksdag observe the elections in Moldova

    Parliamentary elections will be held in the Republic of Moldova on 20 October. Seven members of the Riksdag will be participating in an international delegation which will observe the elections. A Swedish member is the head of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA) delegation.

  • Measures in place to reduce the risk of disruption in the Chamber

    A protective net has been hung up in front of the public gallery to prevent spectators from throwing objects into the Chamber of the Riksdag.

  • New VAT rules for small companies and amended rules for certain services and the sale of works of art

    The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government's proposal on amended rules for value added tax, VAT. The amendments affect smaller companies and certain services as well as the sale of works of art.

  • The Committee on Finance has commissioned two international experts to evaluate the Riksbank’s monetary policy during the period 2015–2024

    The Committee on Finance has appointed Carolyn Wilkins and Morten Ravn to evaluate Swedish monetary policy during the period 2015‒2024.

  • The Speaker on official visit to Poland

    On 9–10 October, the Speaker Andreas Norlén visited Poland together with four members of the Riksdag. The programme included meetings with the Marshal of the Sejm Szymon Holownia and the Polish President Andrzej Duda.

  • 3,178 private members’ motions submitted

    The members of the Riksdag have submitted a total of 3,178 independent private members' motions and 11,022 proposals during the general private members' motions period. This is the result of the preliminary count carried out after the general private members' motions period expired today on 4 October at 4.30 p.m. The figures are yet to be confirmed.

  • The Speaker pays official visit to Denmark

    On 1– 2 October, the Speaker Andreas Norlén visited Denmark together with three members of the Riksdag. The programme included a meeting with the Speaker of the Danish Parliament Søren Gade and participation in the opening of the Danish Parliament, the Folketing.

  • Improved living conditions in connection with residence permits with temporary protection

    The Government has proposed legislative amendments that apply to persons who have been granted a residence permit with temporary protection in Sweden. The Riksdag has voted in favour of the amendments.

  • Increased opportunities to take assets from criminals

    The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposal on new legislation on forfeiture. Among other things it will be possible to take assets with criminal origin from criminals, regardless of whether or not it can be proven that someone has committed an actual offence.

  • Extended powers for Swedish Customs

    Swedish Customs and customs officials are to be given extended powers. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposal.

  • The Speaker honours the victims of the Estonia disaster at a memorial ceremony

    On 28 September, the Speaker Andreas Norlén participated in a memorial ceremony to mark the fact that it was 30 years ago Estonia sank in the Baltic and 852 passengers and crew lost their lives. The victims were honoured during a ceremony at the Estonia Memorial on Djurgården in Stockholm. Among the speakers were the King, the Speaker and the Prime Minister.

  • Human rights and protection of vulnerable groups to be discussed at the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe

    On 30 September–4 October, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, PACE, will be holding its autumn session in Strasbourg. The Riksdag delegation, consisting of 12 members, will participate in the session in which important issues concerning human rights and freedom of expression are to be discussed.

  • Committee from the NATO Parliamentary Assembly visits the Riksdag

    On 25–26 September, the Swedish delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly hosted a visit from the NATO Parliamentary Assembly's Defence and Security Committee. The visiting delegation consisted of some 20 members of parliament from NATO member states.
