    The Government has informed the Riksdag by means of a written communication that is has amended the Aliens Ordinance. The amendment means that certain individuals who entered Sweden prior to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022, will also be entitled to temporary protection in Sweden in accordance with the rules set out in the EU’s Temporary Protection Directive.

    The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government's proposal on legislative amendments and amendments to the Constitution. The amendments to the Constitution are a constitutional matter which have been held in abeyance, which means that the Riksdag has taken a decision on the matter on a previous occasion.

  • Greater possibility to restrict freedom of association for groups involved in terrorism

    The Riksdag has voted in favour of a constitutional proposal which would mean increased possibilities to restrict freedom of association by means of ordinary law for organisations involved in or supporting terrorism.

  • Amendments to the central government budget: the Government to be authorised to give defence material to Ukraine

    The Riksdag has decided to give the Government the authority to give defence material to Ukraine during 2022 for a maximum value of SEK 3 007 800 000. This concerns air defence systems including qualified ammunition, armoured vehicles, personal equipment including winter kits and body protection, gun-laying equipment, tents and camouflage nets.

    On 24–25 October, the Speaker Andreas Norlén participated in the launch of the parliamentary network of the International Crimea Platform. The summit was held in Zagreb and hosted by the Speaker of he Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada – the Ukrainian Parliament – Ruslan Stefanchuk and the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Gordan Jandroković.

  • The war in Ukraine dominates the IPU Assembly

    The Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in the middle of October was again largely dominated by the war in Ukraine. A resolution, a joint statement, was adopted, demanding an immediate end to the Russian military occupation of Ukrainian territory following extensive discussion.

    The Speaker Andreas Norlén has today received an interim report from Ulf Kristersson (Moderate Party) on the latest negotiation rounds regarding the formation of a government. A final report on the task of exploring the possibilities of forming a government has to be submitted to the Speaker on 12 October, as previously announced.
