On 13 July 2006, the Swedish Government decided to appoint a
one-man
inquiry to investigate how research and environmental monitoring can be used to better effect to recreate a good marine environment in the Baltic Sea and the Kattegat and Skagerrak areas of the North Sea.
Director-General
Göran Enander was appointed to lead the inquiry on the same day. On 16 May 2007, the Government adopted supplementary terms of reference for the inquiry relating to issues such as international management of the Baltic Sea and the planning of Swedish sea areas. The inquiry has called itself the Marine Environment Inquiry.
