The bicameral Riksdag

The bicameral (two-chamber) Riksdag was introduced in 1866, with the abolition of the Riksdag of the Four Estates.  The bicameral Riksdag consisted of the First Chamber and the Second Chamber. The bicameral system remained in place until 1971.

The list contains the name of the member, party designation, years in the First Chamber or Second Chamber and total time in the Riksdag. Only the period the members have served in the bicameral Riksdag is counted, not any years in the Riksdag of the Four Estates or subsequent years in the unicameral Riksdag. The number of years is approximate, as it has not been possible to establish the exact date the member started and left.

The unicameral Riksdag
