Environmental work
In 2009, the Riksdag Administration became certified under the ISO 14001 environmental management system. This means that the Riksdag Administration works systematically to plan, implement, follow up and improve its environmental work. Certification also means that external environmental audits are conducted.
The results of the environmental work are followed up and presented three times a year in connection with the Riksdag Administration's tertiary reports. The results are also presented in the annual report. A number of environmental improvements have been made since the Administration became certified. For example, paper consumption has been drastically reduced, carbon dioxide emissions from the Administration's vehicles have fallen and technical equipment and interiors are reused to a greater extent today.
The parliamentary process in the Riksdag is not included in the environmental management system. It is not part of the Riksdag Administration. Included in the parliamentary process are the members of the Riksdag, party secretariats and the decision-making process in the Chamber. However, members of the Riksdag and the party secretariats are indirectly affected by the Riksdag Administration's environmental work through the services, premises and technical equipment provided by the Riksdag Administration.

The Riksdag Administration is environmentally certified under ISO 14001.
Environmental policy
As part of its environmental work, the Riksdag Administration has adopted an environmental policy. This means that the Riksdag Administration shall conduct its activities in such a way as to minimise environmental impact, prevent ill health and make efficient use of resources.
Environmental objectives
The Riksdag Board has established a set of overall environmental objectives for the Riksdag Administration for 2023–2027. These are based on the national environmental quality objectives which have been adopted by the Riksdag, and on the Riksdag Administration's environmental aspects.
For the period 2023–2027, the following overall environmental objectives apply:
- reduce emissions of greenhouse gases;
- minimise the occurrence of hazardous substances;
- reduce energy consumption;
- reduce the amount of waste;
- limit our environmental impact through sustainable purchases.
