The art and buildings of the Riksdag

The Riksdag buildings bear traces of the changes that have taken place during the history of the Riksdag. Between the various buildings on Helgeandsholmen and in the Old Town of Stockholm there are underground passages, and in rooms, corridors and stairwells there are thousands of works of art.

Riksdag buildings for the future

The Riksdag buildings on Helgeandsholmen and in the Old Town of Stockholm are in need of renovation. The plan is to gradually renovate and develop the individual buildings in order to create the best possible conditions for the work of the members and the Riksdag.

The Citizens’ Room

The “Citizens’ Room” is located in the passageway between the East and the West Wing of the Riksdag. Here a number of objects and images are on display that illustrate the importance of the free formation of public opinion for democracy.

The large portraits in the room represent the Speakers of the four Estates at the Riksdag in Örebro in 1810.
