The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government's proposal regarding new rules on dental fees for certain aliens. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's legislative proposal involving stricter conditions for the independent school sector. Sweden is establishing a new agency to strengthen its intelligence activities. The Riksdag voted in favour of the necessary legislative amendments to enable Sweden's foreign intelligence agency (Und) to launch its operations on 1 January 2027.
New criminal sentencing system to be introduced
The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal for a new criminal sentencing system. The purpose of the proposal is to create a fairer criminal justice system where the penalty more accurately reflects the seriousness of the offence, the sentences that are given appear to a greater extent to be reasonable and fair, the crime victim's perspective is given a greater influence and protection of society is enhanced.
More stringent rules for young offenders
The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal to introduce more stringent rules in relation to young offenders. The purpose is, according to the Government, to address the need that has arisen with the large increase of serious crimes among young people, among others, and to maintain the credibility and legitimacy of the criminal justice system.
