Request and borrow

Anyone can register to use the Riksdag Library. Here you will find information about how to borrow publications from us.

Register as a Library user

Anyone who has reached the age of 18 can register as a user of the Riksdag Library.

Once you have registered as a user, you can request, reserve and borrow books. When you visit the Library, you also have access to journals, e-resources and databases, Wi-Fi and plenty of study areas.

Borrow and renew

In order to be able to borrow from the Riksdag Library, you need to bring a valid photo ID.

The loan period is normally 90 days, with an automatic renewal period of a further 90 days, provided no one else makes a reservation during that period. If another Library user does make a reservation, the loan period will be stopped and you will have 14 days in which to return the book. In the event that someone in the Riksdag reserves the book, you may need to return it immediately. You will then receive a message containing information about the new loan period.

Some material may only be read at the Library. This primarily applies to all books published before 1900 and journals.

Keep track of your loans

You can keep track of your loans and requests via your library account My account in RBsök.

RBsök - The Riksdag Library´s discovery tool

Borrowing outside Stockholm

If you do not live in the Stockholm area and are unable to visit the Riksdag Library yourself, contact your local library for assistance.

Request books

A large part of the Library's collections is available on open shelves in the Library and you can collect and borrow this material yourself. However, you will need to request material that is kept in the stacks in advance via the Library's discovery tool RBsök. You can also reserve books that are out on loan. You will receive a message when the material you have requested is available for you to borrow. We will keep this material for you for 3 working days.

Returning books

You can return your loans to the Library during our opening hours or at the entrance when it is manned.

You can also return your loans by post to the address:

Riksdagsbiblioteket
Godsmottagningen Norrbro
100 12 Stockholm

You must pay the postage charges yourself and are responsible for the book until it has been received by the Riksdag Library.

It is not possible to return our books to other libraries.
