Committee on the Constitution

Are the Government and government ministers complying with the rules that apply to the work of the Government? It is the Committee on the Constitution’s responsibility to examine this. The members of the Riksdag have the right to report government ministers to the Committee on the Constitution. The Committee then examines whether or not the ministers who have been reported have acted inappropriately. Other areas for which the Committee on the Constitution is responsible include Sweden’s fundamental laws, matters relating to radio and television and funding to the daily press.

The parliamentary committees prepare decisions

The hub of the work of the Riksdag is the 15 parliamentary committees. This is where the members prepare the Riksdag’s decisions. When a committee has presented its proposal for a decision, all 349 members of the Riksdag adopt a position on the proposal. Each committee is made up of 17 members of the Riksdag. The committees are like a miniature Riksdag, which means that the composition of members in each committee reflects the balance of power in the Riksdag as a whole.
