The opening of the Riksdag session 2025
The Riksdag opened again on Tuesday 9 September. The opening marked the start of the new parliamentary working year, the 2025/26 Riksdag session, for both the Riksdag and its 349 members.

Session of the Nordic Council 2025

In total, approximately 700 people participated in the session during the week, of which around 80 MPs were from Denmark, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Åland.

During the week, there were meetings of the Nordic Speakers, and the Polish Speaker, Szymon Hołownia, who also gave a speech during the session. Several debates were held during the session, including a foreign policy debate in which both Nordic ministers and members of parliament participated. Liv Gustavsen, Norway, addressing a rejoinder to Denmark’s Minister for Culture Jakob Engel-Schmidt.

During the last day of the session, several votes were held, including a vote on recommendations to the Nordic ministers.

Debates and decisions
