Serving of food no longer a requirement for licence to serve alcohol
The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposal to abolish the requirement that food be served and of having one's own kitchen in order to be granted a licence to serve alcohol.

The 9 May is Europe Day. This will be highlighted with a European Day Festival in Kungsträdgården in Stockholm. The Riksdag will participate as one of the exhibitors.
Children and young people to be sentenced to prison instead of institutional youth care
For a person who commits an offence before the age of 18, in cases where a penalty involving the deprivation of liberty cannot be avoided, the penalty will be prison instead of institutional youth care. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposal.
Tougher supervision of permits for explosive products
Supervision of explosive and flammable products is to be improved. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposals.
Stricter rules to combat VAT fraud
The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposal on tougher measures against fraud involving value-added tax, that is, VAT fraud. The aim is to reduce fraud and to prevent tax evasion.
Work environment conventions to be approved
The Riksdag approved the ILO Convention on reducing violence and harassment at work and the ILO Occupational Safety and Health Convention.

The Speaker Andreas Norlén took part in a conference of Speakers of the EU Parliaments on 3–5 May. The Conference took place in Copenhagen.
Faster expansion of prisons and detention centres
The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal to make it possible to grant temporary building permits for prisons and detention centres to a greater extent.

The Government wants to enhance protection of the civilian population in the event of heightened alert. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal on a new law on protective shelters and protective spaces.
More stringent requirements for Swedish citizenship
The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposal to introduce more stringent requirements for acquiring Swedish citizenship.
A new Firearms Act
The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal on a new Firearms Act. The new rules mean, among other things, a ban on certain types of semi-automatic rifles for hunting.
More people to be able to charge electric vehicles at home
The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposal to increase opportunities to charge electric vehicles near to one's home.
The Committee on Foreign Affairs visits Kyiv and participates in security conference
On 22–24 April, ten members of the Riksdag Committee on Foreign Affairs visited Kyiv. During the trip, the Committee participated in the Kyiv Security Conference, an international security conference focusing on security in Europe and Ukraine in the light of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Accountability for Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the Istanbul Convention were discussed at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) spring session
On 20– 24 April, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) held their spring session in Strasbourg. Eight members of the Riksdag delegation participated. During the week, discussions included the Istanbul Convention, the abolition of the death penalty and threats and violence against politicians.
Infrastructure, security and cooperation among the themes at the Conference of Parliamentarians of the Arctic Region (CPAR)
On 18-19 April, members of the Riksdag participated in the Conference of Parliamentarians of the Arctic Region (CPAR), in Fairbanks, USA. The conference adopted a statement on the main themes of infrastructure and energy security, space, security and situational awareness in the Arctic, as well as cooperating in a changing Arctic.
The requirement for an introductory course for driving practice to be abolished
The requirement for an introductory course for driving practice for a Category B driving licence, that is for a private car or light lorry, is to be abolished. The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government’s proposal on this matter.
Abolished registration requirement before applying for parental benefits
Additional amending budget for 2026 – reduced tax on fuel and electricity and gas subsidies
The Riksdag voted in favour of a proposal for an additional amending budget aimed at reducing tax on fuel and to introduce new, temporary electricity and gas subsidies.
Accessibility requirements for certain media
The Riksdag has voted in favour of adopting the Government's proposal, pending a second decision, on amendments to the Freedom of the Press Act and the Fundamental Law on the Freedom of Expression.
Digital recordings obtained by confiscation and copying at house searches shall not be considered official documents
The Government proposes that a digital recording that has been confiscated or copied during a search should not be considered an official document. The Riksdag has voted in favour of adopting the Government's proposed amendment to the Freedom of the Press Act, pending a second decision.
