More stringent supervision of dogs that cause injury

Published:

The county administrative boards will be given more tools for supervision of dogs and to prevent dogs from causing injury. For example, the country administrative boards will have permission to access homes and other spaces for the purpose of supervision and will have greater authority to decide to implement immediate seizure.

The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposals, which also mean that the Police Authority, in certain cases, may decide to put down an animal that has been seized under the Animal Welfare Act.

The new rules will come into force on 1 May 2026.
