Possible to submit estate inventories online

Published:

It will be possible to submit estate inventories and estate notifications to the Swedish Tax Agency online. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposals.

When someone dies, the basic principle is that an estate inventory, that is a list of the assets and debts of the deceased, should be drawn up and registered with the Swedish Tax Agency. It will now be possible to submit these online. It will continue to be possible to submit the documents on paper for those who are unable or do not wish to use the digital service.

The requirement that certified copies of the estate inventory be submitted will also be removed. Furthermore, the trustees who draw up estate inventories will instead be referred to as executors.

The amendments will come into force on 1 July 2026.
