The Riksdag votes in favour of guidelines for economic policy and budget policy

The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposal on guidelines for economic policy and budget policy in the Spring Fiscal Policy Bill.

The uncertainty and unpredictability regarding geopolitical and trade policy developments have caused the Government to revise its forecasts for GDP and unemployment in relation to the Spring Fiscal Policy Bill. As a consequence, the recovery of the Swedish economy is expected to continue at a slower pace than assessed in the Spring Fiscal Policy Bill.

The Riksdag agrees with the Government that a sustainable recovery of the economy needs to be ensured and that Sweden should continue to be strengthened in order to increase its competitiveness and resilience. The Riksdag also shares the Government’s assessment that Sweden’s economic policy should focus on three areas: continuing to safeguard public finances, increasing employment opportunities in Sweden and ensuring that efforts pay off.

The Riksdag furthermore decided to put the communication from the Government in response to the Swedish National Audit Office’s audit report on the application of the fiscal policy framework 2025 on file, that is, to close the matter. In addition, the Riksdag rejected proposals in motions, of which twelve proposals were from the general private members’ motions period 2025.
