The Riksdag voted in favour of two proposals from the Government on schools:

Improved support in schools

The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposals aiming to improve support in schools. It will, for example, be clarified in the Education Act that all children and pupils are to receive guidance and encouragement in order to enable them to follow the lessons.

The amendments also mean that the regulation of guarantees for early support measures and additional adjustments will be abolished. Instead, standardised tests will be conducted at the start of the autumn term for certain school years in order to identify pupils in need of support.

Pupils will receive remedial teaching at an early stage in the compulsory school levels, upper secondary school and upper-secondary school for pupils with intellectual disabilities in the subjects Swedish, Swedish as a second language and mathematics. The amendments also mean that teachers in municipal adult education will have access to or the opportunity to consult staff with skills in special education.

The amendments to the Education Act will come into force on 1 July 2028.
