The Government wants to secure access in society to electronic identification. The Riksdag supports the Government’s proposal on a new national e-identification act, and has voted in favour of the Government’s proposal.
A national e-identification may be granted to people with Swedish citizenship, aliens who are registered as resident in Sweden and people with an immunity number who are covered by the Act on immunity and privileges in certain cases. In order to obtain a national e-identification under the new act, the applicant must have turned nine or be due to turn nine during the current calendar year. The purpose is to meet the requirements of the EU regulation on electronic identification.
The new act will come into force on 1 December 2026.
