Expanded ban on gambling on credit

The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposal for an extended ban on gambling on credit.
The purpose of the proposal is to counteract indebtedness for people who gamble. The ban states that betting agents and those who are licensed to provide games online (licence holders) may neither allow nor contribute to the financing of gambling with credits. Licence holders and betting agents shall also take appropriate measures to prevent gambling from being financed with credits.
The new act will come into force on 1 May 2026.
