The annual session of the Nordic Council will take place at the Riksdag on 27–30 October. Several parts of the session will be open to the public and can also be followed on the Riksdag website.

This year, Swedish holds the Presidency of the Nordic Council and is therefore arranging the annual session at the Riksdag. The Nordic Council is the official body for inter-parliamentary cooperation in the Nordic region. The members collaborate in the Council to make the Nordic region a good place to live and work in.

Between 27 and 30 October, the Riksdag will be filled with members of parliament from Denmark, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Åland for the 77th Nordic Council session.

About the session

The session is the largest Nordic forum for dialogue between parliamentarians, prime ministers and ministers from all over the Nordic region. During the week, there will be party group and committee meetings, as well as a variety of debates.

Summit, award ceremony and debates

Among the programme items that can be followed on the Riksdag website on Tuesday are the plenary with a Nordic summit and a speech by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, as well as the ceremony for the Nordic Council prizes. The plenary meetings on Wednesday and Thursday will include debates on foreign policy and defence policy.

At Tuesday’s summit, there will be a debate with the Nordic Prime Ministers and Heads of Government.  The theme of this debate is Nordic cohesion and Nordic everyday value.

During the session, the members take a number of decisions on various matters – recommendations – which are addressed to the Nordic Council of Ministers or to the Governments of the Nordic countries.
