Together with the Chairman of the Parliament of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, the Speaker Andreas Norlén will host a parliamentary summit in Stockholm on 23–24 November. The meeting will bring together invited Speakers and delegations and will take place within the framework of the Crimean Platform, a format of meetings with governments and parliaments aimed at highlighting the consequences of Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea.

The Stockholm Summit is the Crimean Platform’s fourth parliamentary summit, and will begin with an arrival ceremony and dinner on Sunday 23 November. On Monday, the Speaker Andreas Norlén and Chairman of the Parliament of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk will host a meeting in the Swedish Parliament.

In addition to highlighting the consequences of Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea, the platform aims to focus on the policy of non-recognition and increase pressure on Russia to cease its annexation. Sanctions, human rights, security and economic and environmental consequences will also be discussed.

“The history of Europe has taught us that democracy is stronger than its enemies, and in difficult and uncertain times like these, it is in community with each other that hope is born. I therefore look forward to welcoming my colleagues in Stockholm and building further on our shared will to support Ukraine”, says the Speaker Andreas Norlén.

Background

The Crimean Platform was launched at government level in Kiev in 2021 with the participation of then Prime Minister Stefan Lofven and Minister of Defence Peter Hultqvist, together with representatives from 41 other countries, as well as the EU, NATO, the OSCE and the Council of Europe. The meetings at government level have since been held on line once a year. The first parliamentary summit was held in Zagreb in 2022 and has since been held in Prague in 2023 and in Riga in 2024.
