All students should have access to a staffed school library

The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government’s proposal on amendments to the Education Act and the Library Act.

The amendments mean that the purpose of school libraries will be clarified and that all pupils from preschool class to upper secondary school, as a rule, will have access to a school library at their own school. The school library shall also be staffed.
If there are special reasons, the school library may be located in another school or at a public library.

The legislative amendments will come into force on 1 July 2025.
