Major investment in Sweden's roads and railways

The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government’s proposal for a financial framework, totalling SEK 1,171 billion, which for twelve years will be used to upgrade Sweden’s transport infrastructure. The amount has been calculated according to expected price levels in 2025.
During 2026–2037, the funds will be used for both the maintenance and development of infrastructure including roads and railways.
SEK 354 billion will be used to maintain state-owned roads and SEK 210 billion will be used to maintain state-owned railways. SEK 607 billion will be used to develop the transport system. This will include the development of state-owned railways and roads, fine-tuning and environmental measures in existing infrastructure and central government co-financing of certain regional public transport facilities.
