Members and parties

The Riksdag has 349 members who are elected every four years. To be able to stand for election, you need to be entitled to vote in the parliamentary elections yourself and you must be nominated by a political party. Eight political parties are represented in the Riksdag during the 2022–2026 electoral period.

The work of the members

The members of the Riksdag devote a great deal of their time to work in the committees. Other important tasks include writing private members' motions, and addressing interpellations and questions to government ministers.

The Speaker

The Speaker presides over the work of the Riksdag and is the Riksdag's foremost representative. Among other things, the Speaker chairs the meetings of the Chamber. Andreas Norlén (Moderate Party) has been the Speaker of the Riksdag since 2018.
