Members of the Riksdag observe general elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina

General elections are to be held in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 4 October. Seven members of the Riksdag are included in an international delegation that will observe the elections.

Seven members of the Riksdag will participate in the election observation mission on 4 October. Their task is to monitor the election and evaluate whether it is carried out correctly by being on location in selected parts of the country on election day. 

The members observe the actual election, the sealing of the ballot papers and the counting of the votes in various polling stations. The Swedish MPs will be in and around the capital Sarajevo and Banja Luka. Within the framework of the election observation by the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, around 70 parliamentarians from 25 countries will be participating.

The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA)

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is an organisation for security policy dialogue and cooperation in Europe. The OSCE works to prevent conflicts and to protect human rights. One important task of the Parliamentary Assembly is to observe parliamentary and presidential elections in the member states. 

The election monitoring was carried out by the OSCE, via its Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). The ODIHR has its observers in the country during a longer period both before and after the election.

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly is a forum for parliamentarians from the NATO member states, who, since Sweden’s accession in March 2024 have numbered 32. The Assembly meets at two annual meetings, known as sessions. The activities then take place partly at plenary meetings and partly in five committees.

Press conference in Sarajevo on 5 October

A press conference will be held in Sarajevo on 5 October, when a preliminary statement on the election will be issued. The statement will be published on the websites of the parliamentary assemblies.
