Stronger protection against aliens who pose a qualified security threat

Protection against aliens who pose a qualified security threat will be strengthened. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposal.
The proposal means that:
- opportunities to keep people in detention will be extended, for example, with longer detention periods and reduced evidentiary requirements for detention of adults;
- the conditions for issuing expulsion orders will be clarified;
- more stringent penalties will be introduced for certain crimes under the law.
The amendments will come into force on 1 March 2027.
