Police training programme to be paid for
Published:
The police training programme is to be paid for. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposal that seeks to encourage more people to apply for police training programmes and also to remain in the profession.
The reform means that police training programmes will be paid for by means of the Swedish Board of Student Finance (CSN) gradually writing off the borrower’s student loan. According to the decision, this benefit will be tax-free. Serious and organised crime poses a serious threat both to individuals and to society as a whole. The Riksdag shares the Government’s opinion that paid police training programmes are a necessary priority in order to push back the developments in crime in Sweden.
The decision also involves enhanced privacy protection of data relating to police students and police employees. The Riksdag agrees with the Government’s view that it is important to impede systematic mapping of police students and police employees.
The new rules will come into force on 1 January 2027.
