Improved care for people with mental disabilities
Published:
The Riksdag has voted in favour of government proposals including one on coordinated and support activities.
The proposal aims to achieve more uniform and coherent care for people with harmful use or addictions and other psychiatric conditions. The care should be aimed at people who have special needs for health care and social services for a longer period of time due to a mental disability.
The Government’s proposal entails an increased requirement for cooperation between municipalities and regions. The regions shall for example organise care for people with harmful use or addictions so that it can be provided in a coordinated manner with other psychiatric care.
Another amendment is that the word “abuse” will be removed and replaced by “use” or “harmful use and addiction” in several statutes relating to health care and social services,
The amendments will come into force on 1 January 2028.
