Communication on state efforts to combat economic violence in close relationships has been considered

The Riksdag has considered a government communication based on the report from the Swedish National Audit Office on state efforts to combat economic violence in close relationships. Economic violence refers for example to assuming power of and controlling the economy of another person.

The Riksdag welcomes the National Audit Office’s audit and believes that it shows that working to prevent economic violence must continue and be intensified as well as ensuring that economic violence be made visible to a greater extent.

In the report, four recommendations are made to the Government and two to relevant government agencies. The Committee notes that the Government has taken a number of measures based on the recommendations. For example, the Government has initiated a review of the rules regarding the procedure for the division of property and the period of reconsideration in the Marriage Code. The Committee also notes that the Government is working on developing a new long-term strategy on a number of things including men’s violence against women and that the Government within the framework of this work will continue working on preventing and combating economic violence.

The Riksdag has put the communication on file, that is, it has closed the matter. At the same time, the Riksdag has said no to a number of motions in this area, two of which came in during the general private members' motions period.
