Aliens to pay reasonable compensation for dental care

The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government's proposal regarding new rules on dental fees for certain aliens.
The proposal states that applicants for international protection and certain other aliens shall pay reasonable compensation to the Swedish Migration Agency for dental care that cannot be delayed. This applies to those who have reached the age of 18 and who have an income and their own resources.
At the same time, the Government proposes that dental care that cannot be delayed should no longer be subsidised for adult aliens who are staying in Sweden without the necessary permits.
The Government also proposes an extended transitional period for certain private dental care providers to apply for a permit to carry on their activities.
The legislative amendment regarding the possibility to carry on dental care activities without a permit will come into force on 23 August 2026. The other amendments will come into force on 2 January 2027.
