The Committee on Foreign Affairs visits Kyiv and participates in security conference

Published:

On 22–24 April, ten members of the Riksdag Committee on Foreign Affairs visited Kyiv. During the trip, the Committee participated in the Kyiv Security Conference, an international security conference focusing on security in Europe and Ukraine in the light of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

In connection with the visit, the members held talks with First Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament Oleksandr Korniyenko, Deputy Foreign Minister Yevhen Perebyinis, members of the Ukrainian Parliament and representatives of Ukrainian civil society.

The delegation also visited the Trypilska thermal power plant and other civil infrastructure that has been destroyed by Russia during the war. The members were furthermore given a presentation of Ukraine’s air defence system.

During the Kyiv Security Conference, Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Aron Emilsson (Sweden Democrats) and Deputy Chair Morgan Johansson (Social Democratic Party) each participated in a panel discussion. The Conference brought together political decision-makers, experts and representatives of international organisations to discuss security policy challenges, Ukraine’s resilience and continued international support to the country.

The visit gave the Committee on Foreign Affairs the opportunity to deepen the dialogue with representatives of Ukraine and to hear first-hand experiences of the consequences of the war for the country and its people.
