On 10–13 October, the autumn session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly will be held in Ljubljana, Slovenia. This will be NATO’s 71st autumn session. Four MPs from the Riksdag delegation will be participating.

Around 260 MPs from the NATO member and partner countries will meet at the annual autumn session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, which this year will take place in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Transatlantic partnership and support for Ukraine on the agenda

The themes for the joint public statements and resolutions, which the committees are expected to adopt, include the strengthening of transatlantic economic partnership and security, the promotion of stability and reconciliation in the Western Balkans, NATO preparedness for warfare with unmanned vehicles, as well as continued strong support and solidarity with Ukraine.

The agenda also includes topics such as the protection of critical infrastructure against hybrid attacks, cyber security, disinformation, the development of US and European defence, the Arctic, and NATO’s future strategy towards Russia.

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte will speak at the session and answer questions from MPs.

An award ceremony will also take place when the 2025 “Women for Peace and Security” prize is awarded to Dr Viosa Osmani Sadriu from Kosovo.

Discussions with parliamentarians from other countries

The members of the Riksdag will participate in committee meetings and thematic discussions, and will vote on proposals for joint statements and resolutions to be adopted by the Assembly. No binding decisions are taken at the session, but the discussions between parliamentarians from NATO's 32 member countries play an important role in increasing understanding in the field of security policy and help to promote transparency in society.
