Speaker’s visit to the USA cancelled

The Speaker Andreas Norlén’s planned official visit to the USA on 6–10 October has been cancelled.
The visit was intended to be made together with four members of the Riksdag as part of Sweden’s commemoration of the USA’s 250th anniversary next year.
The trip was scheduled to include meetings in the Congress and Senate, a visit to the Department of State, lectures at universities and meetings with think tanks and Swedish businesses in several states.
The reason the visit has been cancelled is the current political situation in the USA, which has led to a suspension of activities in the House of Representatives during the coming week. The political situation in Congress has made it impossible to carry out parts of the planned programme.
A new date for the visit will be announced at a later date.
