The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposal to increase the level of individual contributions to the high-cost protection reimbursement scheme for prescription medicines.
The proposal means that the ceiling for individual contributions for prescription medicines during a 12-month period will be raised from SEK 2,900 to SEK 3,800, which means that patients will pay a greater amount before the high-cost reimbursement applies. At most, the individual contribution per year will increase by SEK 900.
The price ladder for prescription medicines will also be increased.
- Patients will pay the full cost of prescription medicines up to SEK 2,000, compared to the current SEK 1,450.
- The first rung of the price ladder will be raised so the patient will pay 75 per cent of the cost, compared to 50 per cent today. The law will come into force on 1 July 2025.
