Swedish participation in NATO air defence operation

The Riksdag has approved the Government’s proposal regarding Sweden’s participation in an air defence operation under the command of NATO to protect and maintain the security of military and civil support to Ukraine.
The proposal means that a Swedish armed force comprising a maximum of eight combat aircraft and their personnel will be made available for NATO’s airspace operation in Poland between 1 May and 31 August 2025. The armed force is estimated to include a maximum of 150 people. In addition, the Government intends to participate in airborne air and sea surveillance capabilities and airborne transport capabilities.
The purpose of the air defence operation is to protect and maintain the security of the logistics nodes used for military and civil support to Ukraine.
