The Riksdag votes in favour of guidelines for economic and budget policy

The Riksdag voted in favour the Government’s proposals on guidelines for economic policy and budget policy in the Spring Fiscal Policy Bill.
The uncertainty and unpredictability of trade policy and economic developments have meant that the Government has revised its forecasts for GDP and unemployment compared to the Spring Fiscal Policy Bill. As a result, the recession in the Swedish economy is expected to be more protracted than assessed in the Spring Fiscal Policy Bill. The Riksdag agrees with the Government that Sweden should continue to be built stronger and more secure, through reforms that promote growth, welfare and security. The Riksdag also shares the Government’s assessment that Sweden’s economic policy should focus on three areas: strengthening households and supporting recovery, re-establishing the work-first principle and pushing down unemployment, and increasing growth and investments.
The Riksdag also decided to put the written communication from the Government in response to the Swedish National Audit Office’s audit report on the application of the fiscal policy framework 2024 on file, that is, to close the matter. In addition, the Riksdag rejected proposals in motions, of which nine were from the general private members’ motions period 2024.
