Greater access to leisure activities for children and young people with new leisure activity card

More children and young people will have access to sports, culture, outdoor activities and club activities. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposal to introduce a leisure-time card for children and young people.

The proposals mean, among other things:

  • state aid in the form of a leisure activity card for children’s leisure activities;
  • a new law on the Swedish eHealth Agency’s processing of personal data in matters relating to the leisure activity card;
  • that leisure activity cards will be provided to children’s custodians who are resident in Sweden and are living with the children;
  • that the Swedish eHealth Agency will be responsible for handling matters relating to leisure activity cards.

The objective of the card is to promote children’s opportunities to participate in leisure activities that contribute to active and meaningful free time together with others.

The Riksdag also voted in favour of the Government’s proposals for amendments to the Social Services Act and the Act on the obligation to provide information to prevent improper payments from the welfare system, as well as fraud, violations of rules and crime in working life.

The amendments will come into force on 8 September 2025.
