Second Deputy Speaker visits Saudi Arabia

The Second Deputy Speaker Julia Kronlid (Sweden Democrats) and a delegation of members of the Riksdag will visit Saudi Arabia on 27–29 January. The purpose of the visit is to discuss current issues, mainly on developments in Saudi Arabia concerning gender equality and women’s rights, and to promote a positive image of Sweden through parliamentary contacts.

The visit is a follow-up of the visit to Sweden of the Vice Speaker of the Shura Council of Saudi Arabia Dr Hanan Al Ahmadi in 2023. Gender equality issues were in focus then, as is also the case during this visit. The purpose of the visit is also to further deepen bilateral relations between Sweden and Saudi Arabia, as well as parliamentary exchange.

The delegation will meet with Vice Speaker of the Shura Council of Saudi Arabia Dr Hanan Al Ahmadi and members of the Shura Council, the Secretary-General of the Family Affairs Council at the Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development Dr Maimoonath K. Alkhalil and the Vice Minister of Commerce Dr Eiman Al-Mutairi.

The programme also includes meetings with the President of the Saudi Human Rights Commission Dr Hala Al-Tuwaijri and the Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre. The delegation will also visit universities, women business owners and entrepreneurs, a recycling centre, a driving school and various cultural institutions.

In addition to the Second Deputy Speaker Julia Kronlid (Sweden democrats), the Swedish delegation includes members of the Riksdag Jonny Cato (Centre Party) and Camilla Rinaldo Miller (Christian Democrats), as well as the Deputy Secretary-General of the Riksdag Kristina Svartz.
