Greater consideration to be paid to conservation in Natura 2000 sites

The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government's proposal for legislative amendments to increase conservation considerations when fishing in Natura 2000 sites. The decision includes the possibility for new rules to be issued in cases where fishing involves a habitat degradation in the area.
Natura 2000 sites refer to natural areas in the EU that are particularly worthy of protection.
It is proposed that the new rules will come into force on 1 March 2025.
