Debate on Sweden’s foreign policy

Published:

The foreign policy debate will be held in the Riksdag on 12 February at 9 a.m. The Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard (Moderate Party) will introduce the debate with a presentation of the Government’s Statement of Foreign Policy, that is the Government’s objectives and priorities for foreign policy.

The foreign policy debate takes place once a year in February. The Minister for Foreign Affairs first presents the Statement of Foreign Policy, which describes the foreign policy the Government wishes to pursue. In connection with the Statement, the parties represented in the Riksdag then debate their view of foreign policy.

The debate is divided into two parts. In the first part, one representative from each party participates. In the second half, any members of the Riksdag who wish to speak may take the floor.

The first part of the debate will be interpreted into English and sign language.
The debate on foreign policy is open to the public and the media.
