Improved conditions for veterinary care
Published:
Veterinary care will be provided with better conditions to conduct its activities. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal regarding changes to activities offering health and medical care for animals. The objective is to ensure long-term proper functioning of health and medical care for animals.
The supervision of animal health and medical care is to be expanded; today the supervision carried out is only of the person performing the treatment. The proposal means that this supervision will now also apply to those who carry out an activity in which animal health personnel work.
Today, animal keepers are not regarded as animal health personnel. In view of the dramatic increase in demand for veterinary care, it will be possible for animal keepers to be approved to also enter the category of animal health personnel.
A further amendment to the regulations will make it easier for foreign veterinary surgeons to work in Sweden.
The new rules will come into force on 1 September 2005 with the exception of the amendments concerning the eligibility of animal keepers, which will instead come into force on 1 September 2030.
