Members of the Riksdag observe US election

A presidential election will be held in the USA on 5 November. Six members of the Riksdag will be included in an international delegation to observe the election.
Approximately 120 parliamentarians from 38 OSCE member countries are included in the observation mission on 5 November. Their task is to monitor whether the election is open and conducted in a correct way by being present in selected parts of the country on election day. The parliamentarians observe the actual election, the sealing of the ballot papers and the counting of the votes in various polling stations.
The following members of the Riksdag will participate:
- Björn Söder (Sweden Democrats)
- Johan Büser (Social Democratic Party)
- Carina Ödebrink (Social Democratic Party)
- Markus Wiechel (Sweden Democrats)
- Kadir Kasirga (Social Democratic Party)
- Linnéa Wickman (Social Democratic Party)
The members of the Riksdag will observe the election in the states of California, Michigan and Wisconsin.
The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly
The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is an organisation for security policy dialogue and cooperation in Europe. An important task for the organisation is to observe parliamentary and presidential elections in different countries.
The observation mission is being arranged in cooperation with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and its Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). The OSCE works to prevent conflicts and to protect human rights. It will have observers in the country for a longer period, before and after the elections.
Press conference on 6 November
A press conference will be held in Washington DC on 6 November, during which a preliminary statement on the election will be issued. The statement will be published on the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly website.
