Members of the Riksdag monitor elections in Georgia

Parliamentary elections will be held in Georgia on 26 October. Ten members of the Riksdag are included in an international delegation that will observe the elections.

The observer mission includes some 100 members of parliament. By being on location in selected parts of the country on election day, the task of the observers is to monitor that the elections are open and that they are managed correctly. The members of parliament observe the actual elections, the sealing of the ballot papers and the counting of the votes in various polling stations. The members of the Riksdag will observe the elections in Tbilisi and other parts of the country.

The following members of the Riksdag will participate:

  • Carina Ödebrink (Social Democratic Party)
  • Kadir Kasirga (Social Democratic Party)
  • Linnéa Wickman (Socaial Democratic Party)
  • Peder Björk (Social Democratic Party)
  • Jessica Rodén (Social Democratic Party)
  • Joar Forssell (Liberal Party)
  • Ulrik Nilsson (Moderate Party)
  • Boriana Åberg (Moderate Party)
  • Kerstin Lundgren (Centre Party)

The observer mission is arranged in cooperation between the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA), the European Parliament, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. ODIHR has observers in the country for a longer period, before and after the elections.

Press conference on 27 October 

A press conference will be held in Tbilisi on 27 October, where a preliminary statement on the elections will be issued. The statement will be published on the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly website.
